Westcoast Windows supplied their triple-glazed composite windows for a self-build project in Norwich.
A retired architect and his wife decided to build a home for their future and set about demolishing an old bungalow to build a future-proof home for their retirement.
Being an architect by profession, the customer worked closely on the build, completing the design and drawings, project managing and sourcing the materials.
The couple opted for a timber frame construction and were keen to create an eco home, sourcing materials locally and as environmentally friendly as possible.
Energy efficiency was a key part of the design process and the customer chose Westcoast triple-glazed Classic series for their excellent U-values and thermal insulation properties.
The property achieves good airtightness with testing showing a leakage rate of 2.7m3/hr/m2. Minimising draughts and maximising insulation helps to create a comfortable, cost-effective living environment.
The large glazing area in the atrium using Westcoast composite windows takes advantage of the low winter sunshine to naturally warm the open-plan living area and brings natural light into the home.
The low maintenance aluminium exterior of the windows in finished in the stylish dark grey RAL 7016 and the interior in clear lacquer to fully appreciate the warmth of the wood.
