Westcoast Windows were pleased to partner with main contractors BAM Construction on the development at Harris Academy in Greenwich.

Designed by Nicholas Hare Architects, Harris Academy is located on an expansive and generous site, housed in a new main teaching and administrations building, whilst three existing pavilions were retained and refurbished. The new main building forms a superblock with clear efficient circulation in a figure of eight around an external courtyard and triple height assembly hall space. Clad with insulated steel panels over a buff-brick base, the robust efficient new building reduces the height of buildings on site whilst improving the educational possibilities of the school.

Westcoast Windows is no stranger to commercial projects of this specification – Harris Academy typically involved window sizes of 2900mm x 2100mm, with a weight of around 175kg. The composite windows specification for this project required very high performance glass to prevent solar gain in the class rooms. Automated louvres, of around 600mm x 2000mm, supplied by Tek (www.tek-ltd.com) were glazed into Westcoast Windows units on site to help control room temperature.
