Avista Window Systems won the contract to supply and install the windows and doors for the redevelopment of the old Passport Office, Olympia House, in Newport.
Built in the 1960s, Olympia House is a 90,000 sq ft nine-storey property redeveloped into 62 residential units for private rental, with shops and restaurants on the lower levels. As one of the largest buildings in Newport, the redevelopment of Olympia House will support the regeneration of the city, helping to bring residents back into the centre creating improved vibrancy and a greater sense of community.
Approximately 1,200m2 of Westcoast Classic Series double-glazed windows were specified for this project, primarily the TSG180 and FKG, along with large FKG fixed light stair core screens. The popular TSG180 top hung reversible window is ideal for multi-storey buildings where cleaning and maintenance can be carried out from the inside. FDGD Open Out Terrace Doors were fitted to the top level apartments and the bottom floor apartments were fitted with BHG bottom hung windows with Automatic Opening Vents (AOV).
Westcoast composite windows benefit from a warm wood interior that was finished in a clear lacquer. Externally the architects specified a different RAL colour finish for every floor, which certainly creates a striking contemporary design.
Avista Window Systems also provided the shopfronts and the automatic entrance doors on the Ground level of the development.
“Working with Avista was a pleasurable and stress free experience for us. They worked in harmony with us from step 1 of the project to completion, site surveying, corresponding with the architects when required, ordering, removing the existing windows and finally installing the new.
Prior to starting the project Avista attended site and surveyed thoroughly the 8 story building in its entirety, produced schedules and specifications and quickly got the windows into fabrication to meet our tight programme. Deliveries were scheduled to suit our programme and arrived on time each and every time. Installation was completed ahead of schedule and any queries we had on site were dealt with quickly and efficiently to our satisfaction and we very much look forward to working with Avista again”.
Avista Window Systems offer the complete process of purchasing windows from initial enquiry right through to and including installation, covering a large area of the West country, including Wales, Bristol, Bath, the Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire.
For multi-storey buildings where cleaning and/or reglazing is to be carried out internally.
TThe concealed projecting reversible hinge allows the sash to be fully reversed with all the action externally so the operation of the sash never interferes with curtains, blinds or internal fitments.
The easy glide mechanism incorporates integral safety restrictors which automatically engage when opening and when in the fully reversed cleaning position. Concealed multipoint espagnolette locking provides superior closing tightness for weatherproofing and acoustic attenuation and offers a secure night ventilation position.
For residential access purposes to ground floor terrace or upper floor level balcony locations where doors are to be secured principally from within the building.
Single leaf doors (FDG) are secured by a concealed multipoint locking espagnolette bolt mechanism incorporating an integral handle operated friction stay with a variable hold open position up to either 90° or 165°. In the case of pairs of doors (FDGD) the slave leaf is secured with flush bolts as standard or for enhanced security with espagnolette operation.
