Westcoast Windows are supplying Swedish composite windows for new retirement home development in Hatfield designed to the HAPPI principles
An existing retirement home at Minster Close, Hatfield is being replaced with a new development of up-to-date contemporary accommodation for the over 50s.
The existing site is currently occupied by 30 self-contained flats and 11 bungalows around a courtyard with limited parking.
The new development will comprise of 90 contemporary one and two bedroomed homes, each with their own private balcony. The five storeys of residential accommodation will be linked to a one storey common area, providing a range of facilities for the residents in a generous shared social space plus parking, mobility scooter storage and electric charging points.
The new accommodation is being designed to high quality modern standards guided by the HAPPI* principles. It will provide up to date accommodation with an emphasis on social life and accessibility for the residents.
Working with contractors R G Carter and architects Rock Townsend, Westcoast Windows are supplying 1,100 m2 of our Triple-glazed Design Series composite windows, glazed in Gilberts Louvres.
The Westcoast Windows Design Series has been developed with contemporary architecture in mind, with a deeper glass unit creating a minimal step between outer glass and frame for maximum light, a flush finish and elegant lines. The high performance 48mm triple-glazed composite windows provide an energy efficiency of U-value 1.0 W/m2k for opening and 0.9 W/m2k for fixed windows.
The project began in December 2020 and is anticipated to complete in Summer 2022.

*The HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation) principles are based on 10 key design criteria. Many are recognisable from good design, such as good light, energy efficiency, sustainability and outdoor space and specifically relevant to the spectrum of older persons’ housing needs such as adaptability and ‘care ready’.
