Tjörn house Swedish dream home

In Kårevik, on the southernmost part of Tjörn, Marcus and Helena Wingolf have built their dream house. On a cliff with a view of the sea, islands and skerries, sits a villa with space for a relaxed and simple summer life.

Marcus and Helena Wingolf had long been thinking about building a summer house in Kårevik on Tjörn. Marcus grew up in the town and inherited a plot of land several years ago, and the decision to build matured over time.

Building a new house in a historic archipelago idyll places demands on the design. Marcs and Helena’s goal was to build a house in a modern style that still blends in well with the existing buildings.

“We got in touch with architect Pernilla Kindell at Klok Arkitektur who asked what we wanted. We were looking for a house that symbolizes the simple life with minimal maintenance. At the same time, it should reflect the sea, sky and peace and quiet,” says Helena.

A Swedish villa with two houses

Marcus and Helena basically bought Pernilla’s proposal straight away; A villa with two houses where the roofs meet in the middle and almost form the shape of a bird that has landed on the cliff. The facade is clad in heat-treated pine that will turn silver-gray over time and thus blend in even better with the surrounding rocky landscape. Together with an aluminium sheet roof and windows and sliding sections from Westcoast Windows, the house is as close to maintenance-free as you can get.

The contractor building the house, Json bygg, looked at different window solutions and reviewed the designs of several suppliers. “We were able to determine that Westcoast Windows’ solution, with a sturdy and stylish design and an aluminium exterior, was the best fit. There are a lot of salty winds here, so it’s important to find solutions that last in the long run.”

It has also been important to get help and advice from suppliers.

“We have had very good experience with Westcoast Windows, who have been very accommodating and have provided personal service. It is a big investment, so you want all decisions to be as good as possible”, says Helena.

Stylish Swedish living with composite windows and sliding doors

Inside, the house consists of three bedrooms, a sleeping loft, two bathrooms and a large living room and kitchen. From the latter, the family has a wonderful view thanks to the generous window areas. Here they look out over the classic white facades of Åstol all the way down to Carlsten Fortress.

The villa on the cliff in Kårevik is not alone, however. Right next to Marcus and Helena’s summer house is a villa that looks basically the same – Marcus’ sister and her family built a similar house, using the same windows and sliding doors from Westcoast Windows.
