SWEDISH COMPOSITE WINDOWS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION CAMPUS TO A 1,500 ACADEMY OVER 2 SITES

Westcoast were pleased to partner with main contractors BAM Construction on the development at Stratford Academy in East London.

Designed by Nicholas Hare Architects, the school expanded to a 1500 student academy split over two sites.

On the Upton Lane site the main entrance provides a strong visual focus for the building, between the projecting brick elements of the hall and staircase.

Glazed meeting rooms sit beneath an attractive coloured box, highlighting the entrance to the Academy.

The entrance at Grosvenor Road is highlighted via the double height canopy and curtain walling which links the two retained elements of the design.

Westcoast supplied:

  • 1020m2 of windows and doors
  • Double-glazed Classic Series
  • Window sizes of 2900mm x 2100mm, with a weight of around 175kg
  • High performance glass to prevent solar gain in the class rooms

Westcoast Windows have extensive experience of commercial projects of this size and specification – Stratford Academy typically involved window sizes of 2900mm x 2100mm, with a weight of around 175kg.

The composite windows specification for this project required very high performance glass to prevent solar gain in the class rooms.

Automated louvres, of around 600mm x 2000mm, supplied by Tek (www.tek-ltd.com) were glazed into Westcoast Windows units on site to help control room temperature.
